Pueblo Trash
Trash, trash, and more trash, Pueblo has a trash problem. There is over 106,000 people in Pueblo, and everyone should have their own trash pick-up, but should it be mandatory? It shouldn’t have to be. Everyone should be responsible enough to properly dispose of their garbage. However, people don’t. You will still find trash on the sides of the roads, in the fields, and places it doesn’t belong. The trash piling up is not just a Pueblo problem it’s a worldwide problem. Even though America is leading the way with recycling there’s still more we could do. Take Germany for example. It is mandatory for all Germans to recycle, and if they don’t they lose their trash removal privileges. Trash pick-up should not only be mandatory but, so should recycling. The trash companies should be held responsible for the pick-up and removal I’ll trash and recyclables. However, according to the Pueblo Chieftain trash companies will argue the fact that recycling is not profitable. They say that there are too few outlets to handle the materials.
Pueblo does have a decent recycling plan. Most of the trash removal companies have implements in place to not only remove trash but to recycle as well. For a small monthly fee, you can have your recyclables removed from your curb with your regular trash. If you cannot afford the small fee to recycle there are places within the city limits you can take your recyclables, and they will let you recycle it for free. The most notable place to take your recyclables would be C&C disposal transfer point on the north side of town. There also small recycling garbage cans throughout downtown area in the Riverwalk. CSU-Pueblo and Pueblo community college are doing outstanding job of recycling. PCC has recycling dumpsters so that the students and faculty can bring in their recycling and drop off at the school whenever they want.
There’s even away one could make money off recycling. There’s money to be made when recycling aluminum. American Iron & Metal Co., Inc, Dionisio Metal & Iron, and Speken Iron & Metal are just a few places here in town that will pay you for your cans.
